Pearl Jam are back and sound more grunge than ever. The band released this Tuesday (2/13) their first new song in four years, “Dark Matter”, returning to the heavy rock they abandoned on the previous album, “Gigaton” (2020).
On their official website, the band stated that the recording, made over three weeks, “represents the shared, lifelong spirit of a group of intimate creative partners and brothers in a room playing as if their lives depended on it.”
New album in April
The song is part of the band’s next album, the twelfth of their career, which will also be titled “Dark Matter” and which has been described by Eddie Vedder as Pearl Jam’s “best work”.
The album is produced by Andrew Watt, who worked with Vedder on his solo album, “Earthling” (2022), and was recorded in Malibu, at the legendary studio of Rick Rubin (producer of the Beastie Boys’ classic albums, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Johnny Cash).
The launch is scheduled for April 19th.
