An audio revealed more details about the clash between Wilma Petrillo and Gabriel Costa. In the material released by the press, the widow of Gal Costa (1945-2022) tries to convince the heir to sign a document acknowledging the family’s debt to the Biscoito Fino record company, which allegedly granted loans to the artist.
In the nearly eight-minute recording, Wilma becomes irritated after Gabriel refuses to sign a term demanding an advance on royalties from the music and states that they might go hungry. The widow also claims to have asked the court for an equitable separation of Gal’s royalties. “You don’t believe what I say?” she says.
“We have already taken your mother’s royalties, R$ 143 thousand, right? How much did it cost? It was to pay the IPTU, which is ‘5 pau’, to buy food, to pay school, to pay bills ‘Just as the amounts relate to a loan security… I further declare that Biscoito Fino will have to deduct royalties from the amounts owed to Gal Costa’s heirs.’
At another point, the widow reinforces who the true heirs of Gal Costa’s artistic legacy are. “It was 75% for me and 25% for you, but I didn’t think it was right and I gave 50% to you and 50% to me […] For the love of God, go. Don’t want to sign? Don’t sign. You are not a witness. You are the heir. […] What a mess. Damn Gabriel, what the hell, why don’t you sign? […] Holy shit, you’re just going to do shit […] If you don’t sign we won’t get the money and we will starve, you can’t do this to me, Gabriel”, declares Wilma.
The owner of the Biscoito Fino record label, Kati Almeida Braga, who also appears in the recording allegedly made by Gabriel Costa, confirmed the origin of the conversation to the newspaper O Globo.
