Gretchen was admitted this Tuesday morning (2/20) to undergo surgery to remove her uterus. The singer suffers from adenomyosis, a benign disease that has caused her organ to swell to the size of a 20-week pregnancy.
In an interview with Gshow, the artist said she felt abdominal pain and suffered from swelling that caused her uterus to reach 850 centimeters. The reference values for a healthy woman over the age of 60 who has had pregnancies are between 60 and 120 centimetres.
Gretchen’s health
Dr. Fabiane Berta, responsible for Gretchen’s care, explained that the suspicion of adenomyosis began due to the singer’s abnormal uterine bleeding. Initially, treatment included conservative hormonal therapies and the use of vitamins and herbal medicines.
After a year of treatment, the gynecologist and endocrinologist stated that the best solution would be to remove the affected uterus from the endometrial tissue, as well as continuing with hormone therapies post-operatively.
Gretchen will have to rest in Sao Paulo for a month after the invasive surgery. “I’m very confident and I always encourage women to take care of themselves. Take care of yourself!”, she said on Instagram Stories.
