There are a lot of fun movies in the sports genre, but many (like me) have a penchant for biographies. There is something so captivating about seeing the stories of real-life athletes being told on the big (or sometimes small) screen. The latest production to join this pantheon of films is Increase, which tells the incredible story of the Antetokounmpo family, including NBA players Giannis and Thanasis. The actors who play the two championship-winning athletes in the film, Uche Agada and Ral Agada, are fans of biopic films. And they have ideas for stories to tell in a movie after the one with the two Milwaukee Bucks.
Uche and Ral Agada, who play Giannis and Thanasis respectively, were sports fans and basketball players before being cast for the role. Increase (which can be transmitted with a Disney + subscription ). It is therefore not surprising that they are familiar with films of the genre. I recently had the pleasure of speaking to some newcomers to the world of cinema at their cinema press conference, and during the conference I asked them about their favorite biopic and storylines for future productions. . Uche got the ball rolling (no pun intended) by naming a football movie as his favorite of him before suggesting an NBA A + Draft:
I think one of my favorite sports biopic is The Blind Side, of course. Another NBA player who I think should have the movie of him would probably be Joel Embiid.
Joel Embiid would be a perfect candidate for a feature film. Like the story of Antetokounmpos, the story of the Philadelphia 76ers began outside the United States, as the star center was born in Cameroon, where as a child he played soccer and volleyball. And just like Giannis and Thanasis, he only discovered basketball as a teenager. Such a story might be interesting to watch in dramatized form.
Ral Agada agreed with his brother’s assessment and, interestingly, he even mentioned a football movie as his favorite. The actor also offered a major biopic, which is sure to delight most NBA fans:
Mine is probably Friday Night Lights. Here is a good one. But who else, I think, deserves it? I know Chris Paul and LeBron will have one. In fact, you know what? I want to see a kobe [Bryant] biopic It’s hard to do, man. It’s difficult.
The two Biographical film about LeBron James and Chris Paul are supposed to be fun, but it’s hard to deny how fascinating it would be to see Kobe Bryant’s story on the big screen. when the legendary Los Angeles Laker died aged 41 in 2020 he was deeply saddened and his death, along with that of his daughter Gianna, is still profound. Any studio and director undertaking such an undertaking should be very careful if faced with such a story. As the star said, it is a “difficult” task, even if it is certainly not impossible to complete.
Some may not have imagined that the story of Antetokounmpos could be effectively told through a film. With Increase, director Akin Omotoso sees Veronica and Charles Antetokounmpo, of Nigerian ethnicity, flee Turkey and settle in Greece, where they raise their family. Next, they make more sacrifices to make sure their four children, Giannis, Thanasis, Alex and Kostas, have the tools they need to make their dreams come true. It’s a sweet story and certainly worthy of a biopic.
I hope someone picks up the NBA releases of Uche and Ral Agada, although I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if such projects were in the works as we speak. Who knows, maybe Disney is already looking into these things after addressing the education of the Antetokounmpos.
Increase It is now available (opens in a new tab) with some of best movies on Disney + . You can also makes a lot of sports movies on different platforms and you can do the same with 30 by 30 documentaries .
