Artistic director of Elis Regina’s record label recalls the difficulty in reuniting her with Tom Jobim on an album, which is honored on tour starting this Wednesday (21), at Rolling Stone Sessions, by Rolling Stone Brasil, at Blue Note São Paulo
From this Wednesday, February 21st, Elis & Tom is honored on a tour with Daniel Jobim It is Kel Smithwhich celebrates 50 years of the classic MPB album, recorded in 1974. In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone Brazil, Roberto Menescalthen artistic director of the record label Polygram, responsible for the releases of Elis Reginarecalled the difficulty in reuniting the artist with Tom Jobim.
“A Elis was at Polygram for a while and we wanted to give her a gift. We thought: ‘Let’s make the recording Elis with Tone as a gift’?”, recalled the musician. However, the singer was reluctant to accept the pleasure because she believed that Tom Jobim I wouldn’t agree to record with her, which was true: “I spoke to Tone and the Tone he said: ‘This gauchinha smells like barbecue even now'”the artist would have joked when questioning the musical maturity of Elis.

More than a fan, Kel Smith reveals that it was crossed by the work of Elis still in childhood, at the age of 12, a milestone that would define her career as a singer:
