Now that Baz Luhrmann Elvis arrived at the cinema, and it is earning mostly favorable reviews , audiences who are casual Elvis fans begin to understand what a terrible person Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks) is to the singer who grew up in Memphis. The film claims that Parker bled Elvis out of his finances, leaving the 42-year-old virtually broke when he died. Furthermore these frightening facts Luhrmann told us about a situation that allegedly happened that he omitted from his film, even though it got to the heart of what Parker really thought about Elvis and his fan base.
Before Elvis open, Gossipify was able to travel to Memphis and interview the cast of the film at Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley. And it was during these conversations with the Elvis cast that we heard this horrible story by Baz Luhrmann about the man through whom the director wanted to frame his story of Elvis. As Luhrmann told us:
He’s not in that movie, I didn’t put that role in, but when Elvis dies and the colonel gets the call, the first thing he does is pick up the phone, call RCA and say “Print more records”. ‘Now we all say,’ What a cool human being. In fact, probably yes. But he was like, ‘Yeah, but YOU wanted the records! I just did my job!
He is not wrong. As Tom Hanks would say during these interviews, Colonel Tom Parker was a great salesman and a lousy manager. He didn’t care what Elvis (Austin Butler) sang from the stage. He only cared about how the audience interacted with him, reacted to him and paid to support him. Because the money that goes to Elvis means that the money goes to the colonel.
Baz Luhrmann goes on to say if Elvis shows it to us a side of Tom Hanks that we’ve never seen on screen before , the film is not about Colonel Tom Parker’s decision. Luhrmann says:
I’m not here to tell you if the colonel was right or wrong. I’m here to involve everyone in the audience and walk them into a dark room, all like strangers watching a story, and then sit down and have a chat, a drink, a dance and whatever.
if you looked Elvis during the first weekend, you have to watch the entire Tom Hanks interview ReelBlend the official podcast of the film Gossipify.
From now on, Elvis tied up Top Gun: Maverick at the box office on its opening weekend, with the latest film crushing for weeks and even setting box office records during its run . This is partly due to strong word of mouth. The rest is due to the viral love Top Gun had for things like this Miles Teller’s mustache or Glen Powell’s abs. These two films still have two weeks to master before Thor: love and thunder falls and probably draws all the attention. But the bottom line is that summer blockbusters are back, and ours release schedule of the film coming in 2022 tells you there’s still more to come.
