Keith Richards pays homage to Lou Reed in tribute recording

Rolling Stones guitarist recorded Velvet Underground classic “Waiting for the Man” for Lou Reed covers album

Keith Richards, the iconic guitarist of the Rolling Stones, recorded a version of “Waiting for the Man”, a Lou Reed classic recorded by the singer’s first band, the Velvet Underground, in 1967. A video of the recording, with Richards on vocals and guitar, was published on the musician’s official YouTube channel.

The song is part of the tribute album “The Power of the Heart”, which brings together a collection of new Lou Reed covers, also performed by Joan Jett, Angel Olsen, Lucinda Williams, Rufus Wainwright, Rickie Lee Jones and Rosanne Cash, among others.

The album will be released on April 19th on Light in the Attic Records, an independent label from Seattle, chosen by Lou Reed’s estate to handle its reissues. The album’s liner notes feature liner notes from the compilation’s producer and Lou Reed’s former publicist, Bill Bentley.

In a statement on the honor, Keith Richards praised the New York singer, who died in 2013. “For me, Lou stood out. The real deal! Something important to American music and all music! I miss him and the his dog,” he commented.
