In an unrestrained tone, the singer and composer, who performed in Sao Paulo, said he was fine with never being called to the festival
The singer and composer Guilherme Arantes held, on the night of this Wednesday 6th, at the Sesc Pompeia, in Sao Paulo, the first of a series of three shows. Right at the beginning of the show, after singing two songs closely identified with the city – The city and the fog AND Paulista heart -, Guilherme declared:
“Paulista heart It is not suitable for playing in the food court of Rock in Rio. My haute cuisine (music) has no place in Brazil. But that’s fine with me. Everything OK”.
Guilherme, one of the main hitmakers in the history of Brazilian music, has never been invited to play at Rock in Rio in the event’s 40-year history. It also stays out of other major festivals, even those focused exclusively on national music, such as Coala, in Sao Paulo, and Doce Maravilha and Rock The Mountain, in Rio de Janeiro.
In 2022, in a podcast interview Pavilion 5, by producer Clemente Magalhães, Guilherme had already criticized Rock in Rio, questioning for the fifteenth time the casting of singer Ivete Sangalo. “I think, for example, that Ivete Sangalo has already given what she had to give. That’s enough. I know she’s a great singer and all. I recognize that. But, hey, no opportunity for Roupa Nova? I think it’s strange, “he said at the time.
In 2023, The Town, a debut festival in São Paulo, promoted by Rock World, the same company that makes Rock in Rio, has scheduled names such as Ivan Lins, Mônica Salmaso, Hermeto Paschoal and Hamilton de Holanda to play in a parallel space on the big stages. Called St. Paul’s Square, the place had tourist attractions of the city of St. Paul, such as the municipal market and the Sé Cathedral, and small grocery stores around it.
Show full of successes
In the show he performed in Sao Paulo this Wednesday the 6th, Guilherme, in excellent vocal shape, returning from hip surgery, showed the power of his repertoire. The Estadão report followed the sold-out show, as well as those taking place on Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8.
Accompanied by a band that included guitarist Luiz Carlini, who was part of Tutti Frutti, a group that played with Rita Lee, and bassist Willy Verdaguer, author of the legendary solo in the introduction to Sangue Latino, by Secos & Molhados, Guilherme recorded successes for example Tomorrow, Ecstasy, Planeta Água, Meu Mundo and Nada Mais, Let It Rain, Lance Legal and Lindo Balão Azul.
Guilherme also gave space to lesser-known pieces from his repertoire, among these, Tide Seed2017 and The Templar disturbancethe song that gives its name to his most recent album, released in 2021.
The composer said that this album has something baroque, but has become known as a “geek” repertoire. “This song is about narrative battles. Something that happens within the human being and, in the social environment, turns into polarity,” he explained.
Guilherme Arantes sells everything
The singer and composer Guilherme Arantes announced on Monday the 5th that he had put up for sale his farm on the north coast of Salvador where his production company, Coaxo de Sapo, operated. The sale takes place behind closed doors, that is, when the furniture and objects present on site are also included in the negotiation. The amount requested by Guilherme is R$2 million.
“The reason for selling (the farm) is the dynamics of life, as I have solved other things for my dream, which remains fully alive, in other incredible places,” the singer wrote in the announcement.
Guilherme says there is nothing negative about the act. “Not a single episode of difficulty or annoyance: everything worked there, only full and rewarding results,” says the composer who in recent years has recorded his works there, as well as opening the production company to other artists.
According to the description of the announcement published on a sales site, the land is located in a location in Barra do Jacuípe, on the coast of Camaçari, a municipality near Salvador. The land is 6,640 m2 and the building, which houses eight suites, totals 1,200 m2. The place is surrounded by beaches.
The house, according to the website where it is advertised, is very well maintained, with quality furniture, air conditioning and can accommodate up to 27 people. “Ideal for large families and especially for musical groups, churches or cultural/educational foundations.” In the announcement there is only an aerial photo of the location.
Guilherme also announced two digital recorders with 48 channels for R $ 7,000. “Beautiful, well-kept things. Of course I can autograph it,” wrote the composer. He also recently put up a keyboard for sale, which is no longer available.
Guilherme Arantes, one of the most successful composers of national music, has a program full of performances. This Thursday and Friday he will perform in Sao Paulo, at Sesc Pompeia. On Saturday 9th he will be at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Tickets for these shows are already sold out.
