The festival will also feature Luedji Luna, Xênia França and Tassia Reis in the cast of Dia Delas, with a 100% female line-up

OR Rock in Rio announced Thursday evening, 7, that the Canadian singer Shawn Mendes will be the main attraction of Palco Mundo on the last day of the festival, September 22nd. It will be the artist’s return show after two years away from the scene (read more about Mendes below).

The festival also slammed the hammer on the performance date of the previously announced American singer Ne-Yo. It will also be on the 22nd, on the same stage where Mendes will perform.

Another novelty is the presence of the American Charlie Puth, who will perform at Palco Mundo on September 19, the same date as Ed Sheeran, Joss Stone and Jão. In 2019, Puth was at Rock in Rio and was one of the attractions on the Sunset Stage.

This year Rock in Rio will take place on September 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22 in Cidade do Rock, Rio de Janeiro. The event’s production team expects to receive an audience of 700,000 people for this edition. Other attractions confirmed so far are Travis Scott, One Republic, Ed Sheeran, Joss Stone, Katy Perry, Gloria Gaynor, Ivete Sangalo, Jão, Gloria Groove, Iza, among others.

Tickets, already on sale, cost R$795 for the entire category.

Shawn Mendes performed at Rock in Rio in 2017

25-year-old Canadian Shawn Mendes began finding success as a teenager, when he posted videos of himself singing on the Vine app. Digital popularity attracted the attention of record companies, and at the age of 16, the singer released his first studio album, Handwriting, in 2015. The album contains the song Stitches, which was successful in the charts internationally and on Brazilian radio.

Since then he has released three more albums: Light up (from 2017, with tracks Treat yourself better AND Mercy), Shawn Mendes (self-titled, 2018) e Wonder (from 2020). In 2022, the artist was on tour in North America when she announced that she was canceling the remainder of her performances and taking time off to care for her mental health.

Now Mendes already promises that he has new songs in store, which should be released before Rock in Rio – this will be the singer’s second time at the festival. He performed at Palco Mundo in 2017 on the same night as Maroon 5 and, with voice and guitar, brought a crowd of young people to the city of rock. Remember here what it was like.
