Technology provides good salaries for women, but demand is low
The spread of artificial intelligence has caused consternation in several industrial sectors. Investment bank Goldman Sachs has reported that AI could replace more than 300 million jobs worldwide in the next decade.
This week, Hollywood actors went on strike demanding protective measures against the replacement of humans by AI. However, there is one sector that can benefit significantly from bots: games. Dr Richard Wilson, director of UK gaming association TIGA, said artificial intelligence could “result in more games being produced and more jobs created”. He explained that AI would reduce the cost of game development and speed up the entire process, which would mean more game studios and, therefore, more jobs.
Artificial Intelligence and the Games sector
The gaming sector has advanced considerably thanks to AI and was one of the first industries to use it. Daniel Wood, co-CEO of gaming organization UKIE, told the BBC the importance of AI for the sector. He said:
“The video game industry is always at the forefront of technology, so we are already using AI in several areas, including production, art, in-game character interaction and community management, to create even more exciting and engaging experiences for our players. ”
Wood added: “The future possibilities of AI promise many exciting opportunities for our industry.” However, skeptics believe it is only a matter of time before newly created jobs in the games industry are taken over by bots. The interaction between game development and artificial intelligence is a constantly evolving trend, and the balance between automation and human employment is still a matter of debate.
