The singer recalls scenes from the 2004 film with actor Evan Peters, reinforcing the reference in the title of her new album
Ariana Grande has released the video for “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, the second video inspired by the repertoire of her new album, “Eternal Sunshine”. The video confirms the inspiration for the album’s title, recalling scenes from the film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, with Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet in 2004.
In the music video, Ariana plays Peaches, who sits in the waiting room of Brighter Days Inc. and fills out paperwork to have the memories of her ex (played by Evan Peters of “X-Men: Apocalypse”) erased from her mind.
While Peaches gets ready with futuristic equipment, memories take her back to the happy moments she lived with her ex, like the scene where they create snow angels, exactly like in Michel Gondry’s film. But another flashback scene, involving a birthday cake, pays homage to a different classic: 1984’s “Kids and Dudes,” starring Molly Ringwald.
Ultimately, Peters and Grande cross paths after the memory extraction process and do not recognize each other. In “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, the experiment is not very successful.
“We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” follows the lead single from Grande’s seventh album, “yes, and?”, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
