Rock in Rio confirms Mariah Carey and Cyndi Lauper shows

Last Monday (18th), Rock in Rio announced major new attractions, unprecedented in the festival’s long history, further raising fans’ expectations for September. For the first time in Cidade do Rock and 14 years after their last show in the country, Mariah Carey, one of the biggest icons in global music, will headline the Sunset Stage on September 22, the final day of the festival. Carey will perform her legendary catalog of hits, including I want to know what love is, which spent 27 consecutive weeks at number one on the airplay charts in Brazil, the longest-running number one song in the country. He performs on a stage which, for this edition, acquires even more prominence and a larger stage, strengthening all his power.

Two days earlier, in “Their day“, September 20, Cyndi Lauper, an artist who has marked – and continues to mark – generations, will dominate the topic of all conversations when he performs on Palco Mundo. He will make the entire Cidade do Rock audience sing and vibrate to the sound Girls just wanna have fun;

On the same day, which will see a 100% female line-up on all stages, the South African singer will perform Tyla, winner of the first Grammy dedicated to the best African music performance, completes the Sunset Stage line-up. Also on the 20th, the DJ, producer, composer and one of the protagonists of the current electronic scene, Alison Wonderland is the first confirmed headliner for the dance music stage, New Dance Order.

Rock in Rio will take place on 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22 September 2024, with 700 thousand people in the City of Rock. It will be the celebration of 40 years of the festival that put Brazil on the path to the world music scene and which, in 2022, received the title of Intangible Cultural Heritage from the City and State of Rio de Janeiro. There have already been 22 editions, more than 3,800 artists scheduled, more than 11.2 million audiences and more than 130 days of magic since 1985. And, for 2024, enthusiasts can expect a special party, with new experiences and experiences within the city of the rock.
