The band warmed up the genre-loving audience on a day of Blink-182; the rain-hindered presentation was balanced by moments of despondency and euphoria
The band The offspring took to the Budweiser Stage at Lollapalooza 2024 in the early evening of this Friday the 22nd, promising to usher in the festival’s “punk wave”. On the day, the event is anchored by 182 flashesan eagerly awaited attraction following last year’s cancellation.
In the audience, young and mature faces mixed together to listen to one of the iconic bands of the 90s rebellion. With a lineup focused on nostalgia, it’s easy to bet that this will be the rule for most of the shows at the event.
In the first chords of “Come Out And Play”, The Offspring show why they are highlighted at a “mainstream” festival. It is punk that has become pop – without any value judgment – and is contaminated very easily.
Wheels mosh pit They soon formed themselves among those present and the show began to have a bit of the force of a time machine. But the rain that thickened during the first three songs soon caused discomfort and discouraged those who, in more favorable climates, would have risked enjoying the performance more intensely.
The group decided to balance their biggest hits with lesser-known songs that their fans like. A perfect fit for a festival the size of the current Lollapalooza and Offspring phase, celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary Destroy1994.

The choice, however, caused tepid moments in the show, but the performance regained energy in the band’s biggest hits or interactions. The speeches, in fact, were certainly a highlight.
The Offspring played up the show’s “cheerleader” style. At first he didn’t ignore the rain and the guitarist, tagliatellehe stated: “I feel like I’m watching a group of Brazilian fans.”
The band also shared some admittedly megalomaniacal moments. They said that this would probably be the best show they have done at Lollapalooza – they had previously been to Argentina and Chile – and declared that the show in Sao Paulo was perhaps the best of their career.
“Tonight was the best thing that ever happened to the history of music,” Noodles joked. The guitarist was also responsible for singing the “f*** you” style chorus. Freddie Mercury.
The performance took on a classic flavor with a cover of “Blitzkrieg Bop,” one of the Ramones’ most famous songs. It was impossible not to give in to one of the group’s biggest hits, “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)”, which even made those present throw rainwater into the air due to the many jumps.
The Offspring don’t hide the fact that they are aware that they can also be a band of “uncles”, but they know the power of their music. Yes, punk has changed, it has acquired new faces, but what may come next – like Blink-182, inspired by the group – is what pushes audiences to follow them in times that can be even more challenging.
