In February 2020, the year in which he made his penultimate publication on the social network, Duffy explained to fans why she took a hiatus from music. She revealed that she was drugged, raped, kidnapped and held hostage in a foreign country.
“Many of you ask what happened to me, where I went and why,” said the British artist in a now-deleted post. “The truth is, and please believe I’m fine and safe now: I was raped, drugged and held hostage for a few days.”
In a letter published online in April of the same year, she gave details of what happened. The “Mercy” hitmaker claimed she was drugged at a restaurant during her birthday celebration. She was kidnapped and taken to another country, receiving death threats several times. “I don’t know where I got the strength to face these days,” she said.
