The alternative music marathon begins with Been Stellar, a New York band formed by a Brazilian guitarist
The Modern Playlist brings another two and a half hours of new trends in alternative pop/rock. There are 50 clips that open introspectively, with screeches of miked guitars, but end up dancing, with the revivalist syncopations of post-punk and new wave.
The YouTube underground marathon begins with Brazilian chords. Guitarist Nando Dale is from Sao Paulo, but formed Been Stellar in New York, with Americans Sam Slocum (vocals), Skyler Knapp (guitar), Nico Brunstein (bass) and Laila Wayans (drums). The band, which released its first single in 2020, has been compared to the Strokes, but its sound is unique, mixing shoegaze and post-punk influences with elements of Brazilian music, such as Clube da Esquina. The debut album, “Scream from New York, NY”, is scheduled for release on June 14.
The list continues with another band from the current New York scene: Slow Fiction, of the even younger singer Julia Vassallo – recordings started in 2022 and the next release is the second EP, “Crush”, scheduled for May 24th. And so the selection continues, with many revelations to be explored further on Google. Among the veterans, the highlight is the return of the band Maximo Park, formed in England in 2000, with the first preview of their eighth studio album.
As always, videos are organized by sound affinity in a playlist – to watch on Smart TV, look for Cast in Chrome’s Settings tab or More Tools/Stream etc. on Edge -, with the aim of inserting a sequence that enhances the impression of video/mixtape recording. Try listening without skipping tracks on the Premium version of YouTube (without ad breaks). Or just press play and forget it.
