Guilherme Arantes lists the questions he hears most often: “Aren’t you dead?”

In a humorous way, the singer and composer says that people ask him if he is not Léo Jaime and if he still makes music

Singer and composer Guilherme Arantes, one of the country’s biggest hitmakers, wrote a commentary this Easter Sunday to answer the questions he says he hears on flights and in airports.

Guilherme cited four, the most common, in his opinion: “aren’t you dead?”, “aren’t you Léo Jaime?”, “are you still a singer, do you make music?”, “you” are not strange to me, who are you ?”.

In the text published on Facebook, the singer tried to respond to each of them, always in a humorous and reflective way.

“Whether I’m dead or not is a good question! Congratulations! Because we die every day, and the Guilherme that I was, that I was, has probably already ‘died’ slightly, at least 20 times, it depends on what reference period we’re talking about I’m glad that’s the case,” he replied, regarding the first and cruelest doubt.

Regarding the confusion with Léo Jaime, Guilherme says that it doesn’t bother him much, but he confesses that he doesn’t have the same skills as his generational colleague. “He is a singer with a pleasant voice and a figure loved by our wonderful generation, to which I am very proud to belong…However, among my talents I do not include Dance, Ballet, unfortunately. I would like to…”.

Guilherme said that yes, he still makes music – and shows – and reflected on the music market, which always favors those who are successful over other artists. The singer knows what he is talking about, since in his almost 50-year career he has achieved countless successes, including: My world and nothing more, Planet Water, Let it rain AND Full of charm.

“I have become independent, and I am another person who stands alone, without appearing in the cast of any international ‘team’. It is not a demerit for us to be independent. (Do you want to know? I thank God). I really consider it my ‘profession’ , something that is professed, began when I definitively detached myself from the industrial way of producing”.

As for the fourth question, when someone knows they are famous, but doesn’t connect the name to the person, Guilherme gave his best answer:

“I’ll leave that for posterity! After all, I think I’m really strange…”

Recently, during a show in Sao Paulo, Guilherme commented on being barred from music festivals. “My music isn’t meant to be played in the food court at Rock in Rio. But that’s okay,” he said.

With a busy performance schedule, Guilherme is preparing an album with new compositions and, in recent years, has written songs for singers Gal Costa AND Alaide Costa. In 2021 she released her most recent album, The Templar disturbancea work that he defined as “baroque”.
