Rock band Kiss has sold its music catalog, name, image and likeness – including its iconic face paint – to Pophouse Entertainment, the Swedish music investment company behind ABBA’s holographic show “Voyage.” While terms of the deal were not officially announced, Bloomberg and the Associated Press said it was worth more than $300 million.
News of the deal comes just four months after Kiss revealed plans for an avatar show, similar to ABBA, featuring digital versions of the band.
“Our partnership will combine Kiss’ rich history and iconic status with cutting-edge technology, allowing fans – now and in the future – to experience the band like never before,” said Per Sundin, CEO of Pophouse .
Kiss gave a taste of their upcoming digital show at the final concert of their “End of the Road” tour in New York in 2023, when avatar versions of the band closed the show. Kiss’ first digital concert is scheduled for 2027.
“We have always been pioneers in popular culture and this partnership will ensure we continue to do so for years to come. Because what Pophouse is doing is breaking the rules. We already have several plans in development,” said Gene Simmons, co-founder of Kiss.
Per Sundin said of the deal: “Kiss has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and, throughout their 50-year career, have continued to push the boundaries of popular culture. The band’s enigmatic characters, unparalleled attributes and iconic image have made them a cultural force and a legendary act with multigenerational appeal. Let us protect and enrich this legacy through future global efforts, breathing new life into its characters and characters, leveraging and elevating the visual world of Kiss.”
