The hours pass before the flight. 2 of Strange things Season 4 is finally streaming on Netflix and theories abound in the weeks following the flight. 1 ended with a great revelation about Vecna e his game of Thrones – inspired look . The first batch of episodes was filled with nods to classic 1980s projects, including The empire strikes again. The second one Star Wars film released in 1980, and chief sound effects editor Angelo Palazzo revealed the very specific reference to the distant, distant galaxy that the Duffer brothers wanted.
Angelo Palazzo – he too explained the origins of the disturbing sounds of the great deaths of Vecna – spoke to Gossipify about their work on season 4, including how the sound effects team helped refer to Star Wars scene when it came to Yuri’s plane. He said:
At first the Duffer brothers had said how much they liked it: in Star Wars there is a scene with the Millennium Falcon where they are in a panic, and they have to go fast and get into hyperdrive. Han Solo then turns on the starter, then the inertia starter of the engine fails and starts shaking and groaning. This is the reference they gave us. I thought, “Okay, let me start researching” and I started researching vintage WWII planes, biplanes and P-51s. These old planes that had this kind of old carburetor engines, diesel engines with these inertial starters, and I ended up building this huge library of all of that.
Star Wars fans know The empire strikes again It is not the most functional film Millennium Falcon. According to the leading sound effects publisher, Strange things creators Matt and Ross Duffer wanted something similar for Yuri’s plane in season 4. Of course, Yuri wanting to take Joyce and Murray to the Soviet Union against their will is not quite the same as Han Solo and his company they seek. to escape the Empire, but the similarities are certainly there and Angelo Palazzo searched some old model aircraft engines to find the right sound for which Strange things. He continued:
One of the tricky things believe it or not in this scene was the beginning when we see Yuri and he’s working with the screwdriver and then something happens to the motor and then he hits it a couple of times and then it turns on. . When I first had this scene, and [sound supervisor Craig Henighan] and he was talking about it, he was like, ‘Okay, man, you have to make it work somehow, because all it does is hit the hull of the plane. It must be fun. It must sound mechanical. It has to be credible. I have collected all my items. I just started experiencing bad motors and gear grinding and different motors that run bad and backfire and stuff like that.
The scenes with Yuri, Joyce and Murray provided much of the humor of the flight. 1, especially compared to Eleven with Dr. Brenner and Max narrowly escaping a kill of Vecna with the help of a song by Kate Bush . The whole sequence involving Yuri’s ill-fated plane may not work without the various sonic elements that have been put together, and I would argue that the final product is worthy of Han Solo himself. Angelo Palazzo elaborated:
Then the whole room came together. It was probably a combination of five different planes that started with a clank and backfire, then smoke rose to the side. It was really a challenge just to get started and then once it started it started working. Then at the time it was just about making the plane a little unstable as they flew it because it’s just that kind of battered old junk.
The “beaten” wreck eventually failed to transport Joyce and Murray to Russia as Yuri’s prisoners after managing to grab the plane and crash it, leading to a daring rescue from Hopper instead of joining him as prisoners in the labor camp … or worse. They have yet to flee Russia and return home, and it’s safe to say that the house they return to will be very different from the one they left, considering everything that has happened since Joyce left California. Moreover chaos is surely coming !
Honestly, the best scenario at this point might be if Vecna was somehow contained and the Demo-Bats (which also have fascinating sonic origins ) are still trapped in the Upside Down.
