The British band Blur, one of the most representative of the Britpop scene that conquered the United Kingdom in the 90s, performed at the Coachella Festival in the United States last weekend, and the show did not go as planned.
In a video circulating on social media since the show on Saturday 13th, singer Damon Albarn tries to convince the festival audience to sing along with him the chorus of one of the band’s most famous songs – “Girls and Boys”, from the album “Parklife”, released by the band in 1994.
The poor reception from the public left Albarn visibly disappointed, even suggesting that the band may not perform on the festival’s second weekend, scheduled for April 19-21.
There were many reactions to the video on social media. Fans of the band appealed to the motto “Coachella doesn’t deserve Blur”, while others blamed the audience of the festival itself, considered by many to be “cold”.
The explanation for the show’s failure may lie in generational issues. Blur is a band that reached its peak in the 90s and 2000s, years in which the vast majority of the audience attending the festival had not yet been born. Add to that the fact that the band had ups and downs in their career and did not continue to have success in the US and the “failure” equation is ready.
To date, Blur’s performance for next Saturday (20th) at the festival has been held, despite Albarn’s threat.
