Singer Lauryn Hill returns to Brazil in July as the festival’s main attraction Chic Show – 50 years of Black Music, in Sao Paulo.
The show will take place on July 13 at Allianz Parque and will feature names like YG Marley and Wyclef Jean.
Mano Brown, Criolo, Sandra de Sá and Rael are the confirmed Brazilian attractions.
It all started in 1970, when a strong black movement took over the capital of São Paulo and earned respect in the music scene of the time. “Chic show” was the name chosen by Luiz Alberto da Silva – Luizão – creator of the project that gained notoriety and became synonymous with celebration and pride in black culture.
“Chic Show did what at that time seemed impossible for the blacks of São Paulo. He gave them music and shows that they liked to listen to at a big dance, inside a big club,” Luizão told the Folha de São Paulo newspaper.
It is worth mentioning that “Chic show” represents the social, cultural, political, fashion and entertainment transformation for the black population, which began to dictate fashion and became a trend in the country. In 2023, he won a documentary on Globoplay.
