The event ignores rock in the lineup in favor of all other rhythms, now including reggaeton and pagodas
The name is Rock in Rio, but the production includes a micareta in Rio. The event, which runs from September 13 to 22, has announced new artists to celebrate their 40 years of rock… and, as a rule, at that. edition, none of them are rock artists. Quite the opposite. The program also leaves room for reggaeton and pagode.
Espaço Favela will welcome Xande de Pilares as ambassador on the 19th; Dennis DJ on the 14th; Pocah on the 20th; and Belo will close the festival on the 22nd. Additionally, Colombian Karol G, with hits such as “Tusa” and “Bichota”, will debut at the festival on September 20th.
International artists already confirmed include Akon, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Katy Perry, NE-YO, Shawn Mendes, Mariah Carey, Gloria Gaynor, Cyndi Lauper, Maria Carey, Ed Sheeran, Charlie Puth, Tyla, Ed Sheeran and Joss Stone. National highlights include Ivete Sangalo, NX Zero, Jão, IZA, Luedji Luna, Xênia França and Tassia Reis, as well as funk artists Ludmilla, MC Cabelinho, Orochi, Chefin, Veigh, Kayblack, Funk Orquestra, MC Daniel, Rebecca, MC Soffia and DJ Snake. DJ Deadmau5 is also expected to headline the New Dance Order stage.
As you can see, it’s the Tudo Menos Rock festival in Rio. Oh, there’s NX Zero and, come on, Imagine Dragons. Does this justify the traditional name?
General ticket sales begin May 23 at 7pm, available exclusively through the Ticketmaster website. Prices are R$795 for a full price ticket and R$397.50 for a half-price ticket, with further details available on the event’s official website.
