Brazilian woman who sent 8,000 letters to Harry Styles is sentenced to prison

Myra Carvalho traveled to England to prosecute the singer after suffering a “manic episode”, according to her lawyer

Brazilian Myra Carvalho, accused of stalking and sending 8,000 letters to Harry Styles in less than a month, was sentenced this Friday (19/4) to 14 weeks (3 and a half months) in prison after pleading guilty last Tuesday on Friday, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail.

She also received a restraining order barring her from approaching or contacting the artist for 10 years, as well as being banned from all events where the musician will perform and having to pay a fine of around R$870.

I went to London just to harass

Myra has been staying since December in a hostel in Earls Court, west London, England, so she can forward messages to the singer within a month. Some cards were handwritten and others were made online, as well as having wedding themes.

According to The Independent newspaper, the Brazilian woman’s family was unaware of the intentional trip of the young woman, who also has a partner in Brazil. She was arrested at the end of January on charges of “harassment amounting to stalking”.

Manic episode

The 35-year-old woman has been detained at the HMP Bronzefield women’s prison in England since the beginning of the year. Myra’s lawyer, Clementine Simon, claimed that she had been suffering from a “manic episode” and tried to convince the judge that she was unfit to face legal action.

According to close sources, Harry was “shaken” by the Brazilian’s actions.
