Scottish indie pop band Belle and Sebastiano just released the new track What happened to you, son?now available on digital platforms through Matador Records.
In an official statement from the band, the frontman Stuart Murdoch revealed that What happened to you, son? he was expected to enter last Late developersfrom 2023, which did not happen: “What Happened to You Son was removed quite randomly from the last LP because it seemed to have an extra track. The song is about my youth and the strange hole I fell into in my late teens. I was failing in college, failing in almost everything I felt at that time was obsessed with the music of the time, I put a lot of faith in the lyrics, messages and feelings of some 80s bands – it was probably unhealthy.”explains.
“So even though the theme of this song is a little accusatory, it’s the fault of the beholder. I could have turned it off at any time. Instead, I let the singers become my correspondents and my deities.”adds the musician.
What happened to you, son?second Murdochprovides an explanation of those who became artists and how they changed over time: “The song tries to address what happens when pop stars grow up, change, follow a different path and seem to betray the position they had when you loved them the most. However, the song ends on a note of hope. There is always a way forward, always a light to guide you if you look closely, if you let go of a part of you, if you allow yourself to flow and change.”
