The court rejects the request for a psychosocial assessment of Gal Costa’s son

The request came from Wilma Petrillo, the singer’s widow, who claimed that the heir was vulnerable and manipulated by his girlfriend

The Court of Sao Paulo rejected the request of Wilma Petrillo, Gal Costa’s widow, to subject his heir Gabriel Costa to an “urgent psychosocial examination”. According to her, the singer’s son would have been manipulated by his current girlfriend, who is 33 years older.

Judge Ricardo Pereira Junior, of the 12th Family and Inheritance Court of the capital, held that Gabriel’s mental state is not the subject of the case in question, opening up to the annulment of a document signed by the young man which recognizes the stable union of Gal and Wilma.

The judge also underlined that Gabriel is already an adult and that the assessment of civil capacity will have to be carried out in a separate judgement. “The assessment of the civil capacity of the author must be carried out by those entitled and ex officio, if necessary,” Junior decided.

Inheritance controversy

Wilma Petrillo’s requests are a response to the legal case brought by Gabriel Costa, who asks for the nullity of a document he signed which recognized the singer’s stable union. The heir claims to have written the letter only because he was forced by Wilma, with whom he shared the same residence.

Gabriel Costa also supports the thesis that the coercion began after Gal Costa’s death in November 2022, when his widow began taking controlled prescription drugs.

The widow told the court that the young man was extremely vulnerable and said he stopped attending appointments with a psychiatrist and psychologist after starting a relationship with a 51-year-old woman, who is said to be the mother of his ex-girlfriend.
