Curator of Red Bull Dance Your Style, Raquel Cabaneco spoke to Rolling Stone Brasil about the competition’s final in São Paulo
Every April 29th, the International Dance Day and, to celebrate the date, Red Bull Dance Your Stylea competition taking place for the first time in Brazil, revealed the finalists, who competed in São Paulo, Salvador and Belo Horizonte, for the 2024 edition.
The final is scheduled for May 11th, at 1pm (Brasília time), at Arts Square, in Sao Paulo. Free tickets can be collected at this link. It is worth remembering that whoever wins the contest will represent Brazil in the World Cup, which takes place in India.
The competition of Red Bull Dance Your Style takes place on a dance floor soundtracked by famous songs, where participants need to show dancing skills freestyle. Each round is in a 1×1 format, and each competitor needs to improvise with the song chosen at the time. The winner of the battles is chosen by the majority vote of the audience.
In a statement to Rolling Stone Brazil, Raquel Cabaneco, responsible for curating the event in Brazil alongside Pedro Brum (dancer and audiovisual producer), spoke about the competition and the competitive level. She is also a choreographer for Djonga and member of the ballet Uriah.
“Red Bull Dance Your Style is an event that brings together creativity, entertainment and connection. Far beyond the challenge between the two competitors who are battling, I see this event as something that takes the dancer out of their comfort zone, making them apply their dance style to unpredictable music and, at the same time, make this interaction and have an exchange with the public in order to win the majority vote,” he stated. “It’s an invitation for all people, not just dancers, to connect with the world of dance and expand their creativity while having fun.”
