In January, Tesfaye made a donation including notebooks to the Los Angeles organization School on Wheels. With this, the musician will help more than a thousand homeless students from pre-school to final year of high school to complete school.
The Weeknd had already donated thousands of dollars to charities in recent years. More recently, he has provided support to humanitarian efforts in Gaza, Ethiopia and Lebanon.
School on Wheels’ mission is to create opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth in urban America. The donation of Abel will help pay for tutors to teach children aged 5 to 8 to read and write, in addition to providing technology that can serve as a learning tool.
