Megadeath frontman’s statement came after Kiss playback failure in Belgium
Dave Mustainelead singer and founder of megadeathharshly criticized bands that use playback in an interview with Kerrang! (via Blabbermouth). For the musician, artists should play everything they are capable of, and use pre-recorded tracks only for sounds impossible to reproduce live.
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using supplements for music and other sounds if you can’t play live. If you can, you’re being lazy as fuck,” mustaine stated.
The band kiss was one of the musician’s targets, although he didn’t mention their names directly: “You saw what happened a few days ago with one of these great bands. The playback started and the drummer wasn’t playing. You probably heard about it, I don’t remember who was…”
On show in Belgium in June, Eric Singerdrummer of kissmade a mistake, making the use of playback clear to the audience.
About performance of megadeath, Dave He added: “We don’t have canned vocals. We usually have a MIDI track with the metronome that goes through all the lights and changes with the solos and everything.”
