U2’s Bono says Coldplay is not a rock band: ‘I hope it’s obvious’

The singer stated that this was “not a criticism”; “They shouldn’t be judged by the rules of rock,” he added

Good, singer of the Irish group U2, participated in the program Music discovered: the genius of Coldplay, from BBC Sounds. During the interview, he talked about the sound of Coldplay and declared that, for him, the band Chris Martin “not a rock band”.

“I hope it’s obvious,” Bono continued. “There’s something much more interesting going on [no som do grupo]something along the lines of Isley Brothers or something.”

According to the Irishman, this was not a criticism of Coldplay’s sound. “They shouldn’t be judged by the rules of rock,” he described himself. “Anger is the river that runs beneath most rock bands. Their music has a different source, which I think is best revealed in the 2002 song ‘Clocks’.”

However, Bono said that hearing Clocks for the first time it was surprising. “This is better music than anyone else nowadays,” she thought at the time.

The program Music discovered: the genius of Coldplay collects testimonies and songs to explain the success of Chris Martin’s group. The band will headline Glastonbury, the iconic British festival, for the fifth time in June this year.
