Edmilson de Amorim Ferreira, the Missinho, died this Thursday, 16 years old, at the age of 64, in Salvador. The singer was one of the founders and first singer of the band axé gum with bananaand was part of the group between 1980 and 1986.
According to the family, the cause of death was multiple organ failure. Missinho was admitted to the Roberto Santos hospital in Salvador at the beginning of May due to a kidney crisis. The condition was aggravated by diabetes. Previously, the singer had already spent three months hospitalized.
The funeral wake will take place on Friday 17th at 9am, at the Bosque da Paz cemetery, and will be open to the public. The cremation ceremony will take place at 11.30 am.
Banana gum paid tribute to the former singer with a post on the band’s official Instagram profile. “It was a beautiful moment when she wanted to stay at Chiclete com Banana. Her participation was of fundamental importance. She had room to show her talent, and she proved it,” reads the message.
The lyrics highlight that Missinho composed original songs for the group, including his own tracks Jamaica, Tiete do Chiclete and Lua Menina – as well as showing them the ‘forró root’. Missinho left the group to pursue a solo career and was replaced by Bell Marques, who remained in the group until 2014.
