The Brazilian singer charmed critics with the presentation of her “The Baile Funk Experience” tour in Los Angeles
On Tuesday evening (5/21), Anitta held her first sold-out solo show in the United States at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. A stop on the international tour “The Baile Funk Experience”, the show received excellent reviews from the North American magazine Variety, one of the most important entertainment publications in the North American market.
Impressive performance
The magazine highlighted Anitta’s ability to command the stage, commenting: “Anitta had never headlined her own show in the United States, yet it was hard to believe it was the first time, after seeing the Brazilian star perform an extraordinarily compact set list of almost 30 songs”. The publication also mentioned the presence of Portuguese and Spanish-speaking fans, who opened circles to dance among the audience.
Despite criticizing the venue’s sound system, Variety continued to praise it, stating that Anitta managed to bring the energy of funk parties in Brazilian favelas to a global stage. “From the simplicity of the set design to the complexity of her choreographed steps, Anitta ultimately realized her vision of bringing the sweaty funk parties of Brazil’s favelas to a global stage,” the magazine praised.
Setlist varies
The show featured a diverse set list, including songs from the “Funk Generation” album and hits like “Girl From Rio,” “Mil Veces” and “Envolver.” The performance also included standout collaborations with J Balvin, Cardi B and Missy Elliott, as well as songs like “Bola Rebola” and “Vai Malandra,” which sparked a dance battle among those in attendance.
Anitta started her set promptly at 9pm and finished at 10.20pm, keeping the energy high throughout the night.
“The spirit of the show was comparable to that of an underground warehouse rave at dawn: wet fists banging above people’s heads, while others danced frantically,” Variety described.
