The Chamber approves Rita Lee’s name for Ibirapuera square

Last Tuesday (21st), the São Paulo City Council the bill that gives it its name was definitively approved Rita Lee in a square inside the Ibirapuera Park.

The original proposal, presented by councilor Luna Zaratini (PT), envisaged changing the name of the park. The final text established that Praça da Paz, one of the central areas of the park, will be renamed Praça Rita Lee. The project now awaits approval from Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

“That day I was acting mayor and we declared three days of official mourning. But I always thought she deserved much more. Now, Rita Lee’s name is immortalized in Ibirapuera Park“, said Councilor Milton Leite (União), President of the Chamber.

It is worth mentioning that Rita died on May 9, 2023.
