The acoustic ballad begins with Halsey singing, “Every two years a doctor tells me I’m sick / They bring a new solution / And then they apply it to me / First it was my brain, then an aching skeleton.” The song addresses the singer’s perspective on mortality, with lines such as: “When I met you, I said I’d never die / But the joke was always on me, ’cause I’m fighting against time.”
