Dates headlined by Travis Scott (9/13), Imagine Dragons (9/14) and Katy Perry (9/20) saw tickets disappear within 2 hours of general sales opening
“Rock in RioI’m going!”. If you haven’t yet made plans to go to the 40th anniversary edition of the festival in September this year, don’t worry: you can still, at some point, say the insightful slogan created for the biggest festival in the village.
Of the seven dates scheduled, three did not immediately attract the public’s desire and were far from the rush that, for example, tickets for September 22nd, when the singer Shawn Mendes will close the activities on the main stage. It took just 37 minutes for the Canadian star’s fans to end up with tickets made available by the festival. Let justice be done: Mariah Carey, who had not performed in the country since 2010, also contributed to the feat.

The Brazilian John is also an attraction on the same date as Sheeran – the day will still have Charlie Puth AND Joss Stone on Palco Mundo and Gloria Groove on Sunset. Both Jão and Sheeran will be in the lineup for Rock in Rio Lisboa on June 16th. There are also tickets to see them there.
Called Brazil Day, September 21st is another Rock in Rio date for which you can still purchase tickets. The proposed festival – which has caused confusion among the public and received the curious name “Forever…” – will bring together dozens of national artists with the inclusion, for the first time, of country singers.
They will be represented by the duo Chitãozinho & Xororó who will act as hosts for names such as Ana Castela, Luan Santana, Simone Mendes and Junior. The participation of the Heliópolis Orchestra, while commendable, tends to dilute the raw state of the genre.
On Palco Mundo, Baiana artists prevail: Daniela Mercury, Carlinhos Brown, Baiana System, Margareth Menezes and Majur. Ney Matogrosso, at 82 years old, should be the great phenomenon of the Pra Semper MPB program. Ney must demonstrate, once again, contrary to what the name of the evening suggests, that MPB, although it has effectively become a niche, still has plenty of firewood to burn.
Pra Semper Rock will welcome names who have already distinguished themselves among international artists in previous editions: Capital Inicial, Detonautas, NX Zero, Pitty, Rogério Flausino and Toni Garrido. Pra Semper Trap will have Filipe Ret, Cabelinho, KayBlack, Matuê, Orochi, Ryan SP and Veigh.
It’s difficult to diagnose what caused these three-day festivals not to provoke the same rush for tickets as others. In the case of Dia Brasil it is understandable: the artists mentioned are often on the agenda of other Brazilian festivals that are part of the calendar throughout the country, such as Coala, Salvador Summer Festival, Circuito Sertanejo and Turá. The exhaustion of demand is a hypothesis, there has recently been talk of the postponement of the great tours of Ludmilla and Ivete Sangalo.
Shawn Mendes is a direct descendant of Ed Sheeran: they performed together in Toronto, Canada, in 2023. For Mendes, perhaps audiences welcomed his return to the stage after taking a career break to deal with health issues mental. There is a particularly emotional component to this: in 2019, he canceled a show in Sao Paulo while the audience was already waiting for him at Allianz Parque. At the time, Mendes complained of vocal cord problems.
As for Sheeran, fans are likely expecting him to perform in Sao Paulo, although, to date, none of the Rock in Rio headliners have announced shows outside the festival.
If nothing changes in the next 100 days, Rock in Rio will, for the first time in a long time, have an edition that does not start with its entire quota of tickets sold out. It’s paying to see. Or go.
