Whether in their own projects or participating in the work of others, the list of artists with whom slash ever recorded or played live is immense. Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, Lenny Kravitz, Rihanna, Demi Lovato, Black Eyed Peas and Bob Dylan These are just some of the many that can be mentioned.
The list will grow with Orgy of the Damned, his new blues-oriented solo album, which arrives on May 17th. Artists like Brian Johnson, Steven Tyler, Chris Robinson, Iggy Pop and Dorothy participate in the registry.
One of the standout collaborations, however, came from a musician who isn’t exactly into rock. The country star Chris Stapleton worked with the guitarist on a version for “Oh Well”classic of Fleetwood Mac in the phase Peter Green. The combination left Slash so satisfied that the track ended up being released before the album, as a single.
In an interview with Rolling Stone USA, the man in the hat revealed how the partnership came about. Initially, he commented on the result, saying that he had been thinking about Stapleton’s voice since he created the cover:
“The singing cadence of Chris and that accent he has for this particular song, in my opinion, seemed perfect.”
As Chris even opened a show for Armas e Rosas in nashville years ago, you can even imagine that the two were already friends, right? It’s not quite there: slash I had not spoken to the musician previously.
“I had to get his number and make an invasive call, out of the blue, to him. But he was very kind about it and really went out of his way to help me.”
It ended up working — and the guitarist defines this as one of his best musical ideas, even though it was a reinterpretation. Check it out below.
Chris Stapleton and Guns N’ Roses
In turn, Chris Stapleton told the same media outlet that he has always admired the Armas e Rosas. However, when opening the band’s show, he ended up talking more with the singer Axl Rose.
“I asked him how many nights in a row he can scream like that and sing all the rock & roll he does. Because I know I have limits and how many nights in a row I can actually sing. So we discussed a little about him playing shows with AC/DC. They were conversations you think you’ll never have.”
