The concert market is less lively; Live Nation’s complaint cancellation rate is still stable and raises concerns
The concert market crisis, which affected the performances of Ludmilla and Ivete Sangalo, is not just a national phenomenon. Even artists like Jennifer Lopez and Justin Timberlake had to cancel their tours in the United States and Europe. And the reason seems to clash with similar issues: the strong demand for performances in this post-pandemic period, large spaces with low demand and ever-higher ticket prices could scare away audiences.
Last week, producer Live Nation released a note announcing the cancellation of Jennifer Lopez’s tour, claiming that the singer needed to spend more time with her family, amid rumors that her relationship with the actor Ben Affleck would be in crisis. The NY Post newspaper, however, points to other reasons, including the limited impact of its recent mega launch, This is me…Now, which includes an album and a film released on Prime Video.
Also Bad bunnyEven , one of the biggest names in international music, suffers from poor ticket sales. Justin Timberlake, who recently released the album Everything I thought it wassaw his popularity decline after the release of his ex’s autobiography, Britney Spearswhere he reveals details of his relationship with the singer, including pressure to have an abortion.
According to the Live Nation newspaper, however, it denies the rumors and says that ticket sales for the singer are going “very well”.
On the other hand, names like Taylor Swift AND Beyoncé Ticket sales are taking off.
Live Nation, interviewed by the NY Post, believes that cancellations could occur, underlining that this year it was 4% of production, a figure considered stable by the company.
The Variety portal points out yet another reason: artists with decades of careers, such as Jennifer Lopez and Justin Timberlake, suffer from ageism in pop music, which increasingly produces new artists who thrive on digital platforms and achieve success on the Internet. On the other hand, the public also tends to listen to the old hits of these artists.
Brazilian case
In May the singers Ivete Sangalo AND Ludmilla announced the cancellation of the tours they would have done before the end of the year, The party AND Ludmilla at home, respectively. Both announced the decision in a statement published on social media this Wednesday 15th, and blamed the show’s producer, 30e.
OR Estadao contacted 30e, which called the decision “one-sided” and said it was surprised by the announcements. “As for the tour The party, due to the demand, the company proposed a readjustment of the structure and production to the artist and his team and was surprised by the published statement. As for the ride Tour of Ludmilla in the housethere was no negotiation prior to the artist’s sole decision and statement,” he wrote. Read more here.
