The multi-artist from São Paulo launched the EP in.corpo.ração last week, which continues the narrative started in Corpo Sem Juízo
Jup do Bairro presented us with your Body Without Judgment (2020) four years ago. Now, the multi-artist from São Paulo returns from a new dive — even deeper — into herself with incorporation (2024), new EP with five tracks, produced by her in partnership with the duo CyberKills.
The launch of the project takes place via Natura Musical, a notice for which the artist was selected in 2022. In conversation with Rolling Stone Brazil, Jup says that just like in the previous EP, his connection with artistic creation happens in a “very visceral way.” For her, these works called her to exercise.
In these four years between one project and another, the artist became involved in several partnerships and was on the road with the tour of Body Without Judgment — which earned him the New Artist awards at the awards Multishow It is APCA, in addition to opening the series of shows at Lollapalooza. In the midst of so many events, Jup wrote the script for a film.
It would be called Final Judgment and it would tell the trajectory of a character — neither fictional nor real — I would call it a ‘friction,’ because it would start from my story, but would go to other places that I would like to imagine.
The notice allowed the fragmentation of the project, which the artist classifies as “a kind of continuation of Body Without Judgment. There I was presenting myself to the world in the most literal way possible.” The album tells an experimentation in different genres, from hip hop to rock, passing through funk — with the illustrious participation of Deize Tigrona.
“Now, with in.corpo.ração, I believe it is my most experimental experiment of what I have been consuming. It is an album that really celebrates contemporary São Paulo nightlife, so my references are much more about movements than rhythms,” he explains . Born and raised in Capão Redondo, in the south of São Paulo, funk is the rhythm that is most present throughout the project.
Jup prints on the tracks the sensations you get when you go to the DZ7 dance or when you go to Mamba Negra. “It’s this place with very present stereo,” the idea is to make people hear and feel. The EP proved to be “a place of possibilities,” as he classifies: “Of melancholy, of the fantastic, creation of the imaginary and unimaginable. It even has a somewhat mythological place in how this story is created.”

The artist did not give up on the film. “More than an artist, I think I’m an artist. I like challenges and understanding new possibilities,” she explains. Her encounter with cinema, however, was a little frustrating. The creator did not imagine that making a film would be so expensive.
Making music in Brazil is already expensive. Access is very limited. Even for me, I end up getting notoriety, I end up making contacts and everything. But there are social groups that walk with artists regardless of the places they aim for.
She jokes that, when faced with the possibility of making the film, “I only had a briefcase and a dream.” She even talked to some directors and producers and understood that, at this point, the project will have to wait. “I won’t let this samba die, but I’m going to need a little more calm to understand how to navigate my access to cinema.”
Reflecting on what changed in the four years between EPs, Jup — who used crowdfunding to produce his first album — says that “I needed to believe in people, but for those people to also believe in me.”
The artist had a career with Linn da Quebrada and was constantly asked about releasing solo work. “When I launched, my proposal was that I could fly.” There, she presented her work and raised a question: What can a body without sense do?

“With the new album, I understand what a mindless body can do. But, unfortunately, it is very painful. This body has many possibilities, but many of them are out of your hands,” he reflects. In these four years that have passed, Jup he sees himself as much less innocent, understanding the place in which he operates, “knowing that this place can be aesthetic, but it cannot be static.”
She also understands that the place she finds herself in today requires some malice. But she doesn’t want to give up her sweetness to be part of the game. “Today I want much more and I no longer want to be the representation of representation. It’s a huge burden.”
At the same time, I can give people the opportunity to look and say: ‘Jup is there, so I can do it too,’ it can be a blocker from thinking that Jup is there ‘so I can stay quiet because someone is already doing mine. part. I want to keep dreaming.
Impeccable tuning
Jup signs the production of in.corpo.ration with Gabriel It is Rodrigowhich form the duo Cyberkills. They met around 2019. The artist says that she always dated them through the sets they posted on SounCloud. “I invited them to do a remix of my first single, ‘Body Without Judgment‘.”
“We have very similar tastes, even though they are younger than me,” says the artist. “They’re a bit of electronic music alchemy nerds. That’s always really seduced me.” In 2023, Jup suggested the Pablo Vittar to make a remix album of Night out (2023) and said he wanted to participate.
When asked about the song she would be featured in, Jup confessed that he was already thinking about “Out of control.” “I thought it would be really cool to share this tip with MCCarolboth due to the aesthetic association, which says that we are similar and this strength of singing shouting, would be two counterpoints with the Pablo in the middle.”
The artist agreed and when the invitation was formalized, Cyberkills was already included in the package. “Last year, they also directed the musical direction of my Umbral tour with me and, since then, this wedding has been going on.” For Jupthere was no other possibility than the boys for musical direction and production — initially they were going to do two, but ended up involved in all five.

They also add to the Jupthe artists E d g a r It is Mateus Fazeno Rock, which are with her on the track “I’m not going to cry or regret anymore.” The two are among the singer’s favorites, who says she knew E d g a r because they have friends in common. “We were creating bonds and friendship, until this desire arose to do something together.”
She met Mateus with his first album, Roll in the Ruins (2020), “a tropical punk that I consume a lot,” he explains. She was also featured on the singer’s second album, Jesus Will Not Return (2024), in the track that gives the album its name.
In in.corpo.ração, the three come together in the roles of “clowns”, “pointing to places with a certain naughtiness, a delicious malice that makes you not even feel sorry for these three characters,” he says. The lyrics, despite being heavy, gain a lightness with the contrasting melody.
Woman at the End of the World
The disc closes with Jup singing the song “Woman at the End of the World,” composition of Alice Coutinho It is Romulo Froeseternalized in the voice of Elza Soares. The choice to bring the music is “a great responsibility. Not only because of its cultural weight, but because of its weight for me.
A Elza It is one of the great inspirations for me to be able to sing, talk about my feelings and have recognition of my black body and to talk about my pains and delights as art.
Jup she wanted to incorporate lyrics that made sense to her and this was the second re-recording she made in her career. She recalls that she recorded “Mask,” from the Pitty, for a Deezes women’s day campaign. But this is the first time that something that wasn’t written by her has been included in a project of hers.
“I told my team I wanted to re-record ‘Woman at the End of the World,'” she recalls excitedly. She also says that this was the most difficult song on the EP, especially to find the balance between paying homage to Elzabut it also brought her identity.

incorporation It is the result of honest work in which the artist pours herself into winning over people through her feelings — without leaving aside everything that is aesthetically attractive, which is extremely important for her work, in fact. Jup continues to be a refreshment on the Brazilian music scene.
