Apple TV + is streaming a disturbing new crime drama with the upcoming debut of black bird. The limited series is inspired by real events from a series of murders, a sensitive subject for a television adaptation. According to actress Sepideh Moafi, fans don’t have to worry about the series taking advantage of the victims’ true stories for entertainment purposes.
Sepideh Moafi from the two celebrity plays Lauren McCauley for black birdalong with Taron Egerton (who is already used to playing versions of real people thanks to rocket ), little lady ray of sunshineGreg Kinnear, late Ray Liotta (who died in May ), OR cobra-kai Fan Favorite Paul Walter Hauser . The story is based on the mission of a maximum security prison inmate to extract a confession from a serial killer after the bodies of several girls are discovered.
Speaking to Gossipify about the sensitive nature of telling a story inspired by real events and people, Moafi said:
It is complicated and difficult, which is why I think it is important. The amazing thing about the script is that it doesn’t exploit the story in any way or anything that remotely resembles that story. On the contrary, it pays homage to these girls and their legacy, and I think it was the key to someone wanting to join a show like this that is so creepy, I think it’s a trigger for a lot of people. It is beautifully told, it is a psychological thriller that truly captivates the reader, if you read the script, the reader and, as a viewer, it is captivating. I think Denis [Lehane] he has cleverly created this sculpted story, in fact, which is really hard to tell. Yet you don’t see any of the suggested violence. We only see the rest, which is why it is tastefully done. In a way, it seems to me to be even more disturbing than if I saw the violence on screen.
Sepideh Moafi credits writer / showrunner / executive producer Dennis Lehane (also known for mr mercedes Yes abroad) with the creation of a story that tackles the delicate issue without exploiting it and honors the victims instead. The series is inspired by the autobiography entitled In With The Devil: A fallen hero, a serial killer and a dangerous relationship of redemptionand writer James Keene is an executive producer on the project, so the show also had the team’s main source.
While Jimmy Keene himself is a character on the show (played by Taron Egerton) and other characters are based on real people, others are fusions based on various people. Moafi’s Lauren McCauley is one of those characters based on more than one person, and she explained how this gave her some freedom as an actress:
From a character standpoint, my character is kind of a fusion of a few different real-life characters, so I felt a fair amount of freedom playing her and felt empowered by our cast and producers, and by Dennis, and something like that .. because I had free creative rein to do what I wanted. Yet there is a great sense of responsibility, I believe, in telling the story.
Time black bird tells a story inspired by real events and features fictionalized versions of some real people, it was written and interpreted to present the consequences of violence against victims rather than the violence itself, and Moafi recognized the meaning of “responsibility” in what it show proposed to do. The limited series will run for six episodes, with weekly releases instead of the entire season at once.

The show will subvert expectations of what viewers have seen over and over with detective dramas, with the story partly set behind bars, with an inmate playing the role of some sort of detective to try and get a confession. .
