Justin Timberlake is facing a drink-driving charge in New York’s Hamptons, a local court official confirmed to the Guardian.

The pop singer and actor’s hearing was due to take place in the Sag Harbor courthouse after he was arrested in that community on Monday evening (17), New York’s Newsday reported.

Timberlake’s arrest for drunk driving in Sag Harbor came nearly a year after he appeared on the Oprah television show and addressed his involvement in what he described as “excessive alcohol consumption” at one point in his career. With Oprah, he also discussed turning his life around by seeking help for his addiction and adopting self-care.

The artist’s arrest is almost certain to trigger another round of unfavorable publicity for him as he continues to deal with the fallout from negative headlines, largely triggered by his description in fellow pop star Britney Spears’ memoir of 2023, her ex and ex Mickey Mouse. He is a colleague of the club.

Spears recounted how Timberlake pressured her to abort a pregnancy while they were dating between 1999 and 2002, when he was a member of ‘NSync and also starting to venture out as a solo artist. She wrote that she ended up having surgery at home to avoid being recognized at a hospital—and when she ended up crying on the floor in her pain, he tried to console her by strumming an acoustic guitar and singing to her.
