Known for her brilliant interpretation of the “spoken word”, the poet celebrates, among other things, the 5th anniversary of her debut album Mormaço
Singer, writer, poet, songwriter and cultural producer Mel Duarte, known for her brilliant interpretation of “spoken word”, celebrates the fifth anniversary of her debut album “Mormaço – entre outro forma de calor” with a series of performances in Paulista capital.
Covered by the Black Cultures Call of the City of São Paulo, the shows, free and open to the public, take place on different dates, offering a combination of renewed versions of songs already published by the artist and new compositions that will be part of his next work musical.
Accompanied by her band, Mel Duarte promises a sensorial show, exploring MPB, reggae, soul, rap, funk, trap and Bahian pagodão rhythms.
”It is with great joy that I can finally announce the completion of this project that began last year. Ever since I launched Mormaço in 2019, I have wanted to do full shows complete with a super band, sets, costumes and lighting. Now, this dream will finally come true and take shape. Presenting it in my city is a gift for the public who has followed me since the evenings,’ underlines Mel Duarte.
In addition to the 5 shows that make up this circulation, Mel invites the public to actively participate in the “Mormaço – incendiary words” project, an experience that mixes music and poetry in meetings full of reflection. The conversation circles and poetic performances aim to promote a space dedicated to female expression, with special appearances by artists such as Jéssica Campos, Jô Freitas, Bia Doxum, Indy Naíse, among others.
Taking advantage of the moment of completion of the upcoming album “Colmeia”, the artist will present a new song from this work at each show, starting with “Querem nos Calar” and “Fagulha”, during live performances. This project reaffirms the singer’s commitment to the art of words, now expanded by musicality, addressing themes such as love, passion and affection, combined with a dose of social provocation.
“While I’m renovating my show, I’m in the studio producing a new album. So, I took the opportunity to challenge myself and experiment with rhythms that I hadn’t yet explored in the first album, like funk and pagodão, playing even more with words and looking for new musical possibilities for my art, it was fun and I think some songs will surprise the audience”, he comments.
The band’s lineup will include DJ Jazz, Felipe Parra (guitar and musical direction), Taisson Zigy (percussion) and Ana Eliza Colomar (wind instruments).
“I would like in this show people to remember that the pause is important. Only when you stop, listen and see the things around you – even if there are many crossings – there are still beautiful things to see in the midst of everyone’s life days I just want to ask for a few minutes to remember this”, he concludes.
