In his solo career, Yohan Kisser proves that he does much more than metal and play guitar

Son of legendary guitarist Andreas Kisser, Yohan Kisser is preparing for the third show of his career at Best of Blues and Rock, next Tuesday, 25

Regardless of the artist, both the press and the public label certain bands and singers a specific genre, as happens with the constant relationships that make Yohan Kisser to metal and playing guitar, mainly because he is the son of Andreas Kisserone of the greatest guitarists in Brazil, and join the band Sioux 66.

However, in his solo career, Yohan proves how his repertoire goes far beyond rock, with references that include artists such as André Abujamra It is Igor Stravinski The Hermeto Pascoal, Frank Zappa It is Richard Strauss. In fact, this facet of the 27-year-old artist can be seen on the last day of Best of Blues and Rock 2024next Tuesday, 25th, at Arena Hall, Curitiba. Tickets are available on the website Eventim.

It is worth highlighting how the singer and the festival have a relationship built a few years ago. His first participation was in 2019, with a show alongside his father. The second took place in 2022, with a solo performance, a moment he considered very special.

“It was one of the first shows I did when I released my first EP in 2022, right at the time I lost my mother too… it was a super turbulent and super special week after all,” he recalled Yohan Kisser during an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil. “Although I did other big shows with my father and Sioux 66this was one of the biggest shows I did in my life due to the fact that my name was there [no line-up].”

To be defending [meu nome], being able to play the keyboard on stage, anyway… there are several things that in this solo career I defend that it is only in my solo career that I do. In other places I just play guitar.

Now, for the 2024 edition of Best of Blues and Rock 2024, Yohan is very excited about presenting a mostly original repertoire, with fewer covers and tributes to other artists, whether rock or not.

“I consider this show to be an initial milestone in this phase of the new album. Including the 21st [de junho, próxima sexta] one the first single comes out and 25 and five is the show,” highlighted the artist. “So expectations are high due to these issues.” The performance at the festival will also feature William Paivaof Hammerhead Blueson the battery and Guto Passosbassist of Lobão.

There is a duality in the career of Yohan. Raised by one of the great metal guitarists in Brazil and a member of a hard rock band, he studies music of all styles and even played in recitals, “but my main experience on stage with my father and Sioux 66 It’s always seeing the wheels open… the crowd shaking and headbanging,” something different from what happens in Best of Blues and Rock.

With my father I always played metal, because, guess what… my father plays metal! And I learned to play metal guitar. But this transaction of styles is funny.

“The 2022 festival was very interesting because people played Hermeto Pascoalrang Stravinsky and some classic pieces,” he said. “It was super interesting and the feedback was super positive – more than we even expected.”

Yohan Kisser’s solo project

As you can see, his solo career Yohan Kisser It would be much easier if he followed metal, a path he intentionally chose not to follow. He wants to create music that is organic, coming directly from all musical references and tastes. Therefore, he needs to fight harder to gain a prominent space.

If I had to look for a space, it would be in metal, opening metal shows, playing metal. My first album isn’t very metal anymore. If you listen, there are some dirty guitars, but the intention is not to be trash metal or invert the palette. That was never the intention and, now, even less so.

Second Yohanthe solo career is not a transition, but a beginning: “I’m showing the world, who thinks I’m a metalhead, actually what I want to do. It’s up to people to like or dislike, or listen to, right? Whatever That’s what I’m asking for, because nowadays it’s so difficult to get people’s attention.”

Best of Blues and Rock It opened the doors for me to do my solo project. And my intention is this: to increasingly show my influences, what my taste is really like, what the beaches I like to walk are like, from jazz to Brazilian music,” he continued.

I don’t see myself as a metalhead, as a metal warrior who will take metal to other continents, like things my father did or several bands I know on the radio. I don’t judge myself that way and I think it also takes time for the public to understand… normal.
