“Today I’m feeling very emotional because it’s the first show we’ve done without one of the guitarists who passed away, the Eduardo Cabello“, he said in the Blue Note dressing room, between one show session and another. “It’s a very emotional day for us. Other than that, I feel like the Karnak It’s a community, it’s a big family.”

I have been a Candomblé fan for over 23 years. I have a somewhat normal relationship with death. I know that death is inevitable. I believe in fairies, in elves, in everything. I definitely believe that the Cabellinho I could be watching this show here today, really, spiritually speaking. But if that doesn’t exist — I think it does — I think the Cabellinho I would think the show was really beautiful and I would definitely want to play with us. – André Abujamra

Bro Bap, another guitarist, still offered his point of view as someone who has already been at the side of the band’s fans Karnakoutside the band: “The Karnak always stays ahead of its time. When no one used samples, these recorded bases, the Karnak used, back in the beginning.”

We are really ahead of our time — and that’s not convincing, that’s stuff. A community that has been making a difference for 30 years and continuing to exist is a very beautiful thing. – André Abujamra

Bro revealed that “there was an accident”: when leaving Rio de Janeiro for the show in São Paulo, Abujamra gave “the terrible news” that the bases used for the group’s performances were lost. Everything was done “by hand”, so Bro he added: “I’ve been telling him for some time that we have to start replacing the machines.”

And now, we are anticipating this wave of dismantling artificiality and bringing in our experience, because we have a lot to pass on to young people [risos]. – Bro Bap

I am the son of Antonio Abujamra. My father said it like this: “Success and failure are impostors.” It is obvious that, for us, it is wonderful to be in this place. We received a lot of criticism, because Karnak is not a well-known band to be in such an important place, but we are, and no one can take that away from us. – André Abujamra
