Released on the internet in early May, ‘Not Like Us’ became the most successful track among listeners in the historic feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
Whether by numbers on music streaming platforms, public perception and criticism or quality, Kendrick Lamar is considered the winner of the fight he had with Drake, in which they both released several disses to each other. Now, kendrick can come out with even more moral: “Not Like Us” can be indicated to the Grammy.
During an interview with TMZ, Harvey Mason Jr.CEO Recording Academy (institution responsible for the Grammy), commented how he thinks the song in question has no reason not to be nominated at the next award ceremony.
It’s worth remembering how, in hip hop, diss is an English term designated for songs whose main objective is to expose and/or insult someone. “Obviously it’s a hot song. It’s incredible art, great writing,” said the executive. “The talent on this recording is incredible.”
kendrick has obviously had success with the organization, so I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t happen. It’s all about the quality of the record. It’s about the members [da Academia do Grammy]. If they like it, it will be nominated.
Furthermore, Mason Jr. praised Kendrick Lamarand commented on how the 37-year-old rapper is a “success” in Grammy, as it took 17 gramophones, coming from 50 nominations, in the last 10 years. However, nominations and victories depend not on commercial success, but on “greatness.”
“It’s impactful on so many levels. I like to believe that the members of Academy recognize this,” he commented. Finally, he even made a joke that the infamous disses may have their own category in Grammybecause “everything is possible.”
