BLACKPINK’s Lisa’s new music video reaches 1 million views in half an hour

The Thai rapper from K-Pop’s most popular girl group released “Rockstar” on his record label

Singer Lisa, a member of K-Pop’s most popular girl group BLACKPINK, released her new solo music video, “Rockstar,” on Thursday night (6/27), and it took just half an hour for the video to reach 1 million views. The track is the Thai rapper’s first solo foray in three years, since 2021’s “SG,” and also her first release on her own label, Lloud, with worldwide distribution via RCA Records.

The clip was shot in various locations in Thailand, including Yaowarat Road in Bangkok’s Chinatown and Bang Lamphu Department Store, using a team of Thai dancers and actors. Lisa allegedly paid all the shopkeepers on Yaowarat Road to close early to create a deserted neon night atmosphere. But director Henry Schofield (from Dua Lipa’s classic “New Rules”) also used a lot of studio footage and visual effects in the editing of the clip, which features several dancers, extras and choreography.

Solo career and results

Since 2016, Lisa and BLACKPINK have broken countless records to become one of the biggest pop groups in the world. Most recently, she surprised fans of the genre by outperforming several groups and winning the Best K-Pop solo artist category at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards (with the hit “Lalisa”).

In an interview with Rolling Stone at the time, the rapper revealed her ambitions and desires for her career. “I respect everyone’s roles in BLACKPINK,” she said. “I want to continue doing what I do in the group. But personally, there are a lot of things I want to try. I love photography, I want to act, and so much more.”

Lisa will make her acting debut by starring in the third season of HBO’s acclaimed series “The White Lotus,” set in Thailand.
