About to perform another historic show for the band at Espaço Unimed, Lagum is preparing for the new era of his career after After the End (Deluxe)
After releasing three studio albums, Be What I Want (2016), Generation Things (2019) and Memories (From Where I Never Went) (2021), Lagum needed to find themselves and reconnect as a band. Then, Pedro (vocal), Chicao (low), George (guitar) and Zani (guitar) aimed at another sound with the longest era of their career.
It all started with the EP titled ENDreleased on March 16, 2023, which preceded the fourth album by the miners, entitled After the end, released almost a month later. It can be said that these new works present a break in the band’s discography, known for its rocky and fast-paced sound, which became quite intimate.
This change in sound was not exactly a choice planned for years by the group. In September 2020, Breno Bragathe eternal drummer Uncle Wilsondied at the age of 34 as a result of cardiorespiratory arrest. For After the end, lagum He didn’t go to the studio with a classic formation, with vocals, guitar, bass and drums.
“It was our first job without a drummer. Until Memoirswe generally had a composition of Pedrowho arrived and everyone would play together as a band,” said Jorge in an interview with Rolling Stone Brazil. “It was more of a process of having a guide, a guitar, a voice and the instruments starting to appear there in an overlapping way.”
So it was very natural for us to follow this path, because we were without the Uncle, without anyone in the rhythm department who made us look for samples, build the drums in a non-organic way. It’s interesting because it goes completely against our show, which has a much more rock and roll character, much more band. It is an album that has a more introspective character.
Furthermore, the recording location for the album was a sort of farm in Souzas, a district of Campinas, where there was a grand piano, an instrument that greatly guided the creative process. The artists stayed there for two months, something unusual in the music industry today, and were able to spend more time with each other and with the new songs. “All of this had a huge impact on the sound and the shape of the album,” explained the guitarist.

Meet again to reconnect
Second Chicothe choice of staying in a remote location was for Lagum find themselves again, given that, in recent years, with the social isolation of the Covid-19 and each member following their own life, they felt isolated in a certain way.
“It was very important for us, that we met again not only as musicians, but as friends, as people,” celebrated the bassist. “There was a lot of exchange… some, over the years, go to different paths of relationship or life choices, etc., and it was a process for us to reconnect and understand the other’s head, where they were, why they were and how he was.”
The public can feel all of this, see this text in After the end. For us it was a period that was not easy, but very important.
Here comes another expansion in this phase of Lagum
Among all of the studio albums by Lagum, After the end is the one that had the most time invested by the members. In addition to the EP, they released a live album and, more recently, the After the End (Deluxe)whose format is inspired by those of foreign artists, such as Mac DeMarcowith guides, experimental versions and two unreleased songs.
Part of this motivation, as Pedro he explained, it was being more intimate there with the fans. “It’s a slightly more detached way of making art, because when we make the album we have all that aesthetic concern and the repertoire,” said the singer. “Everything needs to match. In the deluxe, we give up on that and welcome people into our messy house.”
The complexity of this era of the band, which goes far beyond social media posts and interviews, also includes other ways of promoting the album throughout the tour. For example, the deluxe was announced approximately a month before its release, with hints at shows, for example.
“Stay posting [nas redes sociais] It’s kind of boring, right? It’s boring for us and maybe for whoever sees it,” said Pedro. “There were other works that we released and we talked among the band: ‘What now? Do I just keep posting?'”
Historically, touring is already a business to promote your album. With the tour, the live version and the deluxe version, I feel like the project is complete and we’re ready to move on to the next phase, you know?

Lagum’s second sold-out show at Espaço Unimed: the cherry on the cake of the Depois do Fim era
One of the great shows and goals of the group from Minas Gerais was to do a solo show in Unimed Space, one of the main and largest concert venues in São Paulo. They achieved this goal in the second half of 2023, which yielded the album LAGUM LIVE.
For the group’s second coming to Unimed Space, with sold out tickets, this Friday, 28th, the penny has already dropped. Maybe there is some nervousness, but each member is already familiar with the stage and aware of the magnitude of the band, which deservedly conquered the spaces.
“Personally, I’m getting there this year in peace Unimed Space. Of course I’m saying this now with a month to go, getting there on time always gives you an adrenaline rush, you see the size of that wonderful house,” he commented Chico.
“It’s good to feel butterflies in our stomach, to come back with a different proposal, to come back with new songs, to come back with something special because then it makes the experience unique for each time a fan from a city goes to see the show,” he added. Jorge.
