Artists claim Brinker’s Chili’s parodied the iconic ‘Sabotage’ music video and used the song in a 2022 ad without permission

You Beastie Boys are suing Brinker International, the parent company of the Chili’s Grill & Bar restaurant chain. The claim is copyright infringement and violation of their trademark rights after the brand used the song “Sabotage” and his image for a commercial that resembles the music video directed by Spike Jonze.

In a complaint filed in New York federal court on Wednesday, the rap group claims that the company used the song to insinuate that the Beastie Boys endorsed the restaurant chain in some way. Information about the case was released by Pitchfork.

The band is seeking $150,000 in financial damages in the lawsuit, in addition to the Brinker withdraw the commercials and an order to prevent the company from using their work going forward. In a similar case in 2014, the Beastie Boys won a $1.7 million jury verdict against Monster Beverage Corp for using your music without permission.
