Italo Ferreira is champion in Saquarema and returns to the top 5

An exciting victory for Brazil! For the sixth consecutive time, a Brazilian has won the World Surf League (WSL) stage in Saquarema (RJ). This Friday, the all-Brazilian final brought joy to the fans with the victory of Ítalo Ferreira over Yago Dora. With this victory, Ítalo rose to fourth place in the world ranking, positioning himself for the grand final of the circuit, the WSL Finals, in California, in September. Yago Dora also shone, reaching sixth place in the ranking.

Ítalo Ferreira, world champion in 2019 and gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, had never won the Brazilian stage until now. In the last five finals in Saquarema, Filipe Toledo, Adriano de Souza and Yago Dora took the title, but this time it was the guy from Rio Grande do Norte who dominated. Ítalo won with a total of 13.67 against Yago’s 10.60, guaranteeing yet another historic moment for Brazilian surfing.

The WSL is taking a break for the Paris Olympics, where surfing will be held in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, from July 27 to August 5. The last chance to earn points on the circuit will be in Fiji, from August 20 to 29. Expectations are high for the Brazilians seeking glory on the waves.

Meanwhile, in the women’s bracket, American Caitlin Simmers beat her compatriot Sawyer Lindblad, maintaining her lead in the rankings. On the Brazilian side, Tatiana Weston-Webb moved up to seventh place, keeping her dream of reaching the finals alive. The excitement continues, and the Brazilians are ready for more victories in the upcoming stages!
