Can Trump be a prison president in the US?

Former porn star calls for Trump’s arrest after accounting fraud conviction and Trump could be the first American president to serve while in prison.

Stormy Daniels, the former porn star at the center of the case that resulted in Donald Trump’s conviction for accounting fraud, called for the arrest of the former president and current Republican candidate for the White House in an interview published in the British press.

“I think he should be sentenced to prison and do some community service, working for the underprivileged, or being a volunteer punching bag at a women’s shelter,” Daniels told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper on Saturday.

This is Daniels’ first interview since a New York jury found the former president guilty Thursday of 34 counts of falsifying accounting documents to conceal a payment intended to silence her. Daniels has claimed to have had relations with Trump, which he denies.

Daniels, 45, said she was paid $130,000 to avoid a sex scandal in the final stretch of the 2016 campaign that brought Trump to the White House.

“Being in court was very intimidating for me, with the jurors looking at me,” said Stephanie Clifford, Daniels’ legal name. “Like I’ve always said, I’ve been telling the truth the whole time.”

Daniels’ testimony was one of the most talked about moments of the trial, as the former actress recounted details of the sexual relationship she had with Trump in 2006.

“This is not over for me. This will never be over for me,” Daniels said, noting that even if Trump is found guilty, she will have to live with this “legacy” forever.

The 77-year-old Republican, who called the proceedings “unfair,” was released without bail after a hearing this week.

Trump could face up to four years in prison on each charge, but is more likely to be sentenced to probation since he has no criminal record. Still, he is not barred from continuing his campaign, even in the unlikely event that he is arrested.

If sentenced to prison, Trump could become the first president in US history to govern from a prison cell, defying legal and political precedent in the country.
