The group’s performance in New York had to be cut short due to security concerns.
Foo Fighters’ summer U.S. tour got off to an unexpected start on Wednesday night, June 17, when the band was forced to end their set at New York City’s Citi Field stadium early and evacuate the venue due to lightning storms.
The rockers played for only 1 hour and 20 minutes (about half of their typical sets) before being told to end the show.
“I just got word that there’s a storm coming. Hold on tight! There’s lightning and stuff,” Dave Grohl told the crowd. “We’re gonna play as much as we can until someone says it’s not safe for you, okay? So just so you know, we’re gonna be out here doing this until it’s safe for you. For now, let’s sing this shit Right now.”
Shortly afterward, the band was ordered to leave the stage. “This sucks, believe me. If I could do something about it, I would. Hang in there… everyone’s going to be safe. If we can play again, we will. But listen, you know we love you, we know that. We’ll come back for you, right?

The band subsequently released a statement on social media. “We are very disappointed that we were unable to play our full set for the amazing crowd at Citi Field tonight. But the safety of our fans, staff and everyone who works at the stadium comes first, so when it was determined that there was no safe way to continue the show in this dangerous weather, we had no choice but to shut down the entire evening.“, says the note.
