Bassist in both bands, he will make a unique presentation in South America of both their compilations
There are two albums called “Substance” that were released by Factory Records and that changed the course of world music. “Substance” by Joy Division captures the post-punk of the British band recorded between 1977 and the 80s. “Substance” by New Order captures the influential English group between 1981 and 87. In common, they both have bassist Peter Hook, who will make a unique presentation in the country, in São Paulo, on August 27, at Áudio, presenting both in full. That is the size of the show.
Rounding out Peter Hook & The Light’s 2024 tour are shows in Australia, New Zealand, North America, the UK and Ireland. The Sao Paulo show will be the only one in South America this year.
“Substance” is New Order’s first compilation album, released in 1987, which ended up becoming the English band’s most famous album; it is also the name of the singles compilation, released a year later by British post-punk band Joy Division, which contains tracks from EPs that did not appear on the LPs “Transmission”, “Komarino”, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and “Atmosfera”. “It still amazes me how much fun it is to play the ‘Substance’ LPs. The contrast between Joy Division and New Order is very clear, but they both complement each other very well. My only frustration is that I can’t play our records more every night. I’m really looking forward to that stage, so let’s enjoy ‘Substance’ a bit more and prepare for the future,” says Peter Hook.
Peter Hook (vocals/bass) arrives in São Paulo accompanied by the band The Light, formed by David Potts (guitar/vocals), Paul Kehoe (drums), Martin Rebelski (keyboards) and Paul Duffy (bass/vocals). The repertoire will have hits such as “Bizarre Love Triangle”, “Blue Monday”, “Ceremony”, “Perfect Kiss”, “Temptation” and “Thieves Like Us” (New Order), as well as “Atmosphere”, “Dead Souls”, “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, “She’s Lost Control” and “Transmission” (Joy Division).
Hook first revisited Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures” album in May 2010 at a benefit concert; and followed in subsequent years with performances of later albums from his bands Joy Division and New Order. Most recently, the artist celebrated more than four decades of Joy Division’s continuing influence: a show that featured both albums played in their entirety.
