‘Puro Feeling’ was released on the 23rd and pays homage to blind surfer Derek Rabelo
The drummer Junaiine participated in the founding of Natiruts and helped create the main hits of the reggae band, of which he was a member until 2011. Today, 13 years later, he is riding the first waves of his solo career with the single “Puro Feeling”, which reached audio platforms through Ditto on this 23rd of July.
The song was born from the artist and composer from Brasília’s experience with the surfing scene in Florianópolis (SC), the city where he has lived since 2008. “Puro Feeling” is also a tribute to the surfer Derek Rabelowho was born with congenital glaucoma and lost his vision in the first few days of life.
Derek has a surfboard on the Surfer Wall at the Nazaré Surf Museum in Portugal, having surfed one of the town’s giant waves. He was also one of the athletes to carry the Olympic torch in 2016.
I met Derek at one of the training sessions and he asked me to write a song about his life story. A few days passed and the lyrics came out”, revealed Junaiine, who was inspired by his friend’s journey of overcoming difficulties to produce the song.
All the instrumentals for the song were created by the musician himself. “It was an incredible experience and very different from anything I’ve ever had. When I was in Natiruts, each member did their part. I found it very interesting to think about the other instruments too,” he said. The artist from Ceará is on vocals for “Puro Feeling.” Paulinho Freitaswho has collaborated with Junaiine on other occasions.
The single opens the first batch of original releases by Junaiine and is part of his first EP. The complete work Divine light should arrive on audio platforms in 2025.
